AutoCAD Solids, Extrusions and Creating STL's for 3D printing:
1. Create all geometry in Imperial
2. All loops need to be closed using the JOIN command
3. EXTRUDE <enter>
- Select internal loops first (these are the ones that you plan to cut out) <enter>
- MO <solid>
- Specify height <0.5", enter>
4. DISPLAYSTYLE <enter>
- window to select extrusions
- Select <realistic>
*This will allow you to see the solid you currently made!
*Remember to use the cube and home icon in the top right corner to toggle view orientations
5. EXTRUDE <enter>
- Select outer loop objects <enter>
- MO <solid>
- Specify height <0.25", enter>
6. Use DISPLAYMODE command again to see the new extrusion you just made
7. SUBTRACT <enter>
- Select the main base extrusion first (the one you made 0.25") <enter>
-Select the larger extrusions that you wish to cut out <enter>
*Your internal extrusions should be removed from your main obejct
8. Save as a .dwg
9. EXPORT from the file pull down menu
- Other formats
*Locate the folder in which you want to save your .stl
- select .stl extension <ok>
- window your solid object that you just made in model space <enter>
DONE!!!!!!!!!!
10. Copy your .STL file to your USB external harddrive and see the teacher for 3D printing!!!!!
