FOOTINGS AND
FOOTINGS & FOUNDATIONS:
FOOTINGS - What are the footings of a house?
The bottom part of a foundation is called a footing (or footer). The footing is generally wider than the foundation wall and is located about 12 inches below the frost line (the average depth at which soil freezes year after year). The footing distributes the house's weight to prevent settling or movement.
FOUNDATION - A foundation wall is the masonry or concrete walls below the ground level. These walls serve as the main support for a structure of your home. This means that they are extremely important to the overall structure of your home. Foundation walls also form the envelope of a usable basement.
